Dr. Eugenio Zallo Eugenio Zallo is the scientific lead of the MWM group. He is originally from Frascati, Rome. He received
his BS in Physics and MS in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of
Rome "Tor Vergata" (group of Prof. A. Balzarotti). He continued with
his graduate studies in the group of Prof. A. Rastelli and Prof. O. G. Schmidt
(IFW Dresden) working on strain-tunable optoelectronic devices based on
semiconductor quantum dots and earning a PhD in Physics in 2015 from the Technical
University of Chemnitz. Until 2020 he was a postdoctoral fellow at Paul Drude
Institute in Berlin (group of Dr. R. Calarco) developing new concepts for phase
change materials-based memories and 2D materials. In March 2020, Eugenio Zallo joined the SNQS
chair (Prof. J. J. Finley) at the Technical University of Munich.
His research
focuses on experimental semiconductor physics of nanostructures with a special
focus on the epitaxial growth and the optoelectronic properties of van der
Waals bonded materials.
Hubert Riedl Hubert Riedl is our UHV, epitaxy and technical expert at
SNQS.
Key Scientific Collaborator:
PD Dr. Gregor
Koblmüller The 2D MBE system has been established with Dr. Gregor Koblmüller
who leads III-V epitaxy efforts in the SNQS group.
Graduate Students:
Michele Bissolo Michele joined us from E25 (WSI-TUM) and will help understanding the MBE growth of 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures.
Marco Dembecki Marco has designed our analytical setup for in-situ Raman
and photoluminescence spectroscopies and is currently completing first
prototypes. His research focuses on exploring intrinsic optical, electronic and
excitonic properties of group III-monochalcogenides in a UHV environment.
Jan Schabesberger Jan's research focuses on optical and electronic properties of MBE-grown indium selenide for photocatalytic applications.
