For whom? Bachelor AEP, 6. Sem
Type Lecture
Time and Location

Lectures will be held in HS-3 of the Physics Department and we get to meet each other twice per week: Wednesdays: 14:00-16:00 and Fridays: 10:00-12:00

An accompanying Tutorial / Exercise class will take place with the date and time and group distribution to be organized during the first lecture.

NOTE - There will be no exercise on 1.5.13 due to the holiday, the next exercise sheet will go online next Thursday 2.5.13 to be discussed on the 8.5.13

Exam

Time and Location

Assessment of this course will be based on an Oral Examination at the end of SS2013 and evaluation / active participation in the Tutorial Classes

A bonus mark of +0.3 will be awarded to students who complete and actively participate in the tutorial classes (>80% attendance)

Oral examinations will be held in 2 blocks :, one in the third week of June and the second in mid July - precise examination periods will be fixed at the beginning of the Summer Semester.  The examination language can be either German or English

Content

This course is designed for Bachelor Students in the 6th semester following the Applied and Engineering Physics program at TUM. After successfully completing the course students will be in a position to understand why structuring of materials, such as insulators, semiconductors, non-magnetic and magnetic metals, on lengthscales below 1µm can lead to fundamentally new physical, electronic and optical properties. Moreover, students will learn how a range of modern materials structuring and processing technologies such as thin film growth, electron and optical lithography, etching, nano-manipulation and self-assembly routinely allow the construction of complex systems where novel physical and quantum effects can be exploited to build devices with entirely new functionalities.

Exercises

The exercise groups will take place on Wednesday from 8:30 - 9:30

Tutorial Coordinator - Julian Treu - Julian.Treu(at)wsi.tum.de

Please submit your solutions to Sekretäriat in WSI (S210)  (exercise box) until Monday 17:00.
