Plasmonics: Hybrid metallic nanostructures

In this research project we focus on the optical investigation of semiconductor based nanostructures (e.g. self-assembled quantum dots, colloidal quantum dots, nanowires, etc.) integrated in nanoscale metallic system (e.g. waveguides, quantum wires, periodic structures, etc.). The main goal of our research is the realisation of solid-state based information processing units consisting of nanoscale metallic objects, enabling processing speeds near the speed of light. This will result in nanoscale photonic circuits on a chip, combining the features sizes similar to electronic circuits and the processing speed of dielectric photonic crystal structures.
