Silicon
Silicon is the best established semiconductor material and, consequently, material technologies and nanofabrication methods are now very sophisticated. One of our main research thrusts are silicon-based light emitters that would have considerable potential for applications as optical interconnects, for example in the future development of novel computer architectures. Another focus of our research is the fabrication and characterization of Si and Si/Ge semiconductor nanostructures allowing the control of electron and nuclear spin properties.
